The existing infrastructure would provide the backbone for all communications without further modification. This simplified the installation considerably as a tried and tested network, with free capacity, was present to “plug” straight into.
The RMS management software would reside on the existing head office server and the RMS store software would be installed on the existing store workstations. It was considered acceptable for the stores to enter sales information directly into the workstations via mouse, keyboard and barcode reader. Only improved cash draws were required, which would connect directly to the existing PCs.
At this stage it was determined that improved label printing with barcodes would be introduced. The customer had experienced some issues with unknown barcode types not reading correctly (for reseller goods) and wanted to standardise. These labels would include item description and some form of branding along with the barcode. It would be an ideal time to adopt changes like this which would fit seamlessly into the RMS/EPOS setup.
