Laser & Radio Point to Point Connection
Review
The solution offered was a 100 Mbit laser link (which could be upgraded to 1 Gigabit if necessary) supplemented with a radio backup system consisting of two 54 Mbit links. This would meet the data rate requirement (over the laser or radio) and offer multiple paths, using different technologies, for best possible reliability and redundancy.
This solution would require switching hardware upgrades, to allow for the redundancy, which was included in the design specification.
