Laser & Radio Point to Point Connection
Post Review
This installation was understood to be complex from inception due to the stone grading building. It is truly impressive, over 40 metres tall with up to 30 cm of lateral movement during start-up and very strong fluctuating vibrations when running, let alone the continuous fine dust produced during the stone crushing process. This plant would be in operation during use of the links and had to be fully understood and countered.
The laser alignment (which is critical) had to cope with movement between head units and high levels of dust. The laser beams (4 per head unit) were spread and enlarged to allow for the movement and the cowl arrangement greatly reduced the dust around the front of the lenses. The mounting location was also within easy reach for maintenance and cleaning as necessary.
